- The Kitchen Assistant provides essential support to the kitchen staff in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen. This role involves a variety of tasks, including food preparation, cleaning, and maintaining a hygienic and organized kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation:
- Assisting with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, chopping, and slicing vegetables and fruits.
- Preparing and marinating meats and other ingredients as directed by the chef.
- Assisting in the preparation of sauces, dressings, and garnishes.
- Ensuring proper storage and rotation of food items.
Kitchen Maintenance:
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen at all times, including washing dishes, pots, pans, and utensils.
- Sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning work surfaces, and ensuring all equipment is clean and in good working order.
- Assisting with the proper disposal of waste and recycling.
Other Duties:
- Assisting with the receiving and storage of food deliveries.
- Assisting with the set-up and breakdown of the kitchen for service.
- Following all food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Head Chef/Kitchen Supervisor.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior experience in a kitchen environment is preferred but not essential.
- Basic food handling and hygiene knowledge.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects.
