Job Overview
- The Design Engineer in Civil Engineering will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and overseeing the development of infrastructure projects.
- This includes producing design plans, calculations, and detailed drawings for a range of civil engineering works, ensuring compliance with project specifications, local regulations, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design Development:
- Develop and create detailed designs and blueprints for civil engineering projects (roads, bridges etc.).
- Use engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, etc.) to produce design drawings and models.
- Conduct site analysis and surveys to inform the design process.
Technical Analysis:
- Perform structural, hydrological, and geotechnical analyses to ensure designs are robust and practical.
- Evaluate and recommend materials, construction methods, and techniques to ensure cost-effective and sustainable designs.
- Conduct feasibility studies and site assessments to identify potential issues early in the design phase.
Collaboration & Coordination:
- Work closely with other engineers to ensure the integration of all design elements.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to gather requirements and provide project updates.
Compliance & Standards:
- Ensure all designs adhere to local and national building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
- Produce reports and documentation for compliance, permitting, and regulatory approvals.
Project Management:
- Assist in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to ensure designs are completed on time and within budget.
- Track design progress and manage revisions to maintain project timelines.
- Provide support to the construction team, answering technical questions during the implementation phase.
Quality Assurance:
- Review designs and drawings for quality, accuracy, and consistency.
- Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to design specifications.
- Identify design and construction issues and recommend solutions.
Sustainability & Innovation:
- Incorporate sustainable practices into design, such as energy-efficient materials and environmentally friendly techniques.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and innovations in civil engineering design.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a COREN certification is preferred
- Experience: 3 - 5 years of experience in civil engineering design (roads and bridges), with a strong focus on infrastructure projects.
Skills:
- Proficiency in design and drafting software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D,etc.).
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials science, and construction practices.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
Work Environment:
- Office-based with occasional site visits to ensure design accuracy and feasibility.
- Travel may be required for site inspections or meetings.
