Position Summary




  • The Protection Associate will play a critical role in supporting the integration of protection principles into a humanitarian housing aid project. The role involves working with affected populations to ensure their safety, dignity, and access to adequate housing while addressing vulnerabilities and promoting durable solutions. The position requires a combination of technical knowledge, field engagement, coordination skills, and advocacy for protection-sensitive approaches.



Key Responsibilities




  • Ensure that protection principles (safety, dignity, and non-discrimination) are integrated into all aspects of the housing aid project.

  • Collaborate with technical teams to identify risks and mitigation measures associated with housing design, site selection, and implementation.

  • Conduct regular protection risk assessments related to housing interventions and develop actionable recommendations.

  • Facilitate participatory approaches, ensuring affected communities, including vulnerable groups (e.g., women, children, elderly, and persons with disabilities), are consulted during all stages of the project.

  • Provide training and capacity-building sessions for staff, partners, and community stakeholders on protection principles and their application in housing projects.

  • Develop and maintain referral pathways for individuals and households requiring additional support beyond housing assistance.

  • Collect qualitative and quantitative data to monitor protection outcomes related to housing interventions.

  • Analyze and document lessons learned, good practices, and case studies to inform future projects.

  • Prepare regular reports on protection activities and share insights with relevant stakeholders.

  • Coordinate with humanitarian actors, local authorities, and civil society organizations to ensure a coherent and integrated approach to housing and protection needs.

  • Advocate for the inclusion of protection considerations in local and national housing policies and programs.

  • Participate in relevant coordination mechanisms, such as Protection Clusters and Housing/Shelter Working Groups.

  • Advocacy and negotiation skills to represent protection concerns effectively.



Qualifications and Experience:




  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably with displaced populations.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
