Job Description



Location: Tincan Island Port, Apapa, Lagos


Operational Responsibilities



  • Operates the RTG by following all safety rules, discerning any engine trouble that may require immediate attention.

  • Inspects the body and parts of the RTG like tire pressure, spreader, lights (for nighttime operation), PA system etc.

  • Test runs the RTG to find out its working condition.

  • Proceeds immediately to the block assigned by the supervisor and execute instructions from the (VMT) Vehicle Mounted Terminal.

  • Loads and unloads containers from trucks coming from the vessel to the yard and vice versa, receiving export containers and mounting containers to delivery trucks.

  • Ensures proper log-in/log-out protocols in the VMT are observed.

  • Inspects equipment, identifies and reports any safety problems, malfunctions, or damage to RTG crane components and equipment, before, during or after the shift.

  • Respond to signals/radio and directions by the staff and work in coordination with them.

  • Maintain proper coordination and cooperation with the terminal Traffic system, so that the normal activities are not disrupted.

  • Carries out duties and tasks in an efficient, productive manner.

  • Acts as signalman when RTG are moving from one stack to another.

  • Ensure proper hand-over of the RTG to the next incoming shift operator.

  • Performs other related duties that the superior may direct from time to time


Educational Qualification



  • Minimum of SSCE

  • HND, BSc, B.Tech will be an added advantage


Work Experience:



  • Minimum of 4 years’ relevant work experience on same role with a valid Driver’s Licence


Age Requirement:



  • Between 25-40 years old


Technical Competencies:



  • Proficient with terminal standard equipment’s and technical expertise.

  • Thoroughly familiar with the strict implementation of international standards of safe working practices terminal operations.

  • A comprehensive understanding of container terminal operations, especially vessel cargo logistics, hazardous cargo, break-bulk and special cargo handling requirements and equipment


Work Cycle:  



  • Shift basis.
