As a key member of the executive team, the Vice President will oversee laboratory processes, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and team leadership, driving operational efficiency and excellence in molecular, genomic, and diagnostic services.
Responsibilities
Planning and Execution
Contributes to the creation of the business's corporate strategy by offering thoughtful analysis and suggestions on all Medical Lab and Diagnostic Center operations.
Coordinates the department's business strategy formulation, administration, and implementation initiatives.
Oversees the creation and implementation of the procedures and policies regulating the management of all Medical Lab and Diagnostic Center operations in accordance with the company's corporate strategy, primary business goals, leading standards, practices, and legislation.
Oversees the creation and management of the yearly budget for the Medical Lab and Diagnostic Center functions • Monitors the institutionalization of a customer centric culture and high performance across the Medical Lab and Diagnostic Center services
Selects the support service delivery method that is most efficient and cost-effective.
Evaluates reports from all departments that make up the Medical Lab and Diagnostic Center function and provides management with monthly updates.
Business Operations
Establishes specimen preparation methods, develops and implements analytical procedures, evaluates laboratory data, and reports results in accordance with accepted standards to provide medical laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic information, goods, and services.
Maintains the performance of diagnostic equipment by setting quality standards, creating operational, quality, and troubleshooting processes, ensuring staff compliance, certifying instrument performance, and arranging for equipment replacement, servicing, and repair.
Maintains diagnostic center productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas, identifying peak and slack periods, and making operational or staffing adjustments. Maintains diagnostic center supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, and verifying receipt of supplies.
Implements QMS; conducts proficiency assessments; reviews quality control and quality assurance programs; modifies policies and procedures; produces reports; and keeps records to maintain quality results.
Identifies information needs and problems, suggests changes, sets priorities, tests, writes user manuals, trains staff, and upholds security and confidentiality to maintain the medical laboratory information system.
Evaluates options, creates proposals, creates and carries out parallel testing, and keeps track of progress, implements new programs, tests, methods, instruments, and processes.
Fulfills operational requirements by assigning and scheduling staff and monitoring job outcomes.
Retains professional and technical knowledge through participating in professional societies, attending educational courses, reading professional periodicals, and building personal networks.
Performs daily rounds of the laboratory to assess efficiency of use, staff and supply usage, and general climate of ethics and professionalism
Creates departmental budgets for staff, operational costs, and capital expenditures.
Establishes and upholds performance standards, guarantees staff competence, and obtains and maintains the necessary licenses
Retains diagnostic center personnel through hiring, vetting, onboarding, and training staff
Coordinate the department’s in-service training

Provides overall leadership and direction for the achievement of agreed targets/objectives for the Medical Lab and Diagnostic Centre functions
Supports the implementation and facilitation of relevant workshops and training courses

Manages the day-to-day performance, learning and development of the team, including one on one feedback sessions and conduct performance appraisals
Requirements
Education
A First Degree in Medicine, Health Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry or any other relevant discipline from a reputable institution.
Relevant higher qualification, e.g., PhD/Master's Degree in medical microbiology, pathology, medical laboratory science, public Health or related field is an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ relevant or related post-graduation experience, with at least five (5) years’ experience in a senior laboratory management position
Registered with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN)
Possession of a current annual practicing license
ISO 15189 (Medical Laboratory QMS) training will be added advantage
Experience in strengthening diagnostic networks including supporting elements, such as specimen transport, biosafety, supervision, mentorship, and quality assurance
Knowledge of mycobacteriology laboratory work, solid and liquid culture and/or other diagnostics
