Job Summary
- The Trial Field Operation Officer will be responsible for planning, executing, and managing field trials and demonstration for vegetable crop varieties on a one-acre plot.
- This role involves monitoring crop performance, collecting and analyzing data, and liaising with stakeholders to ensure successful trial and demo operations.
- The officer will play a key role in providing insights on varietal performance and selections based on trial results.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with trial planning schedules for vegetable varietal demonstrations and field trials in collaboration with sales teams.
- Planting, irrigation, pruning, trellising, weeding, fertilization, nursery and crop management activities for trial and demo plots.
- Ensure proper labeling, mapping, and varietal dentification for accurate data collection.
- Liaise with Agronomist to implement integrated pest and disease management strategies.
- Monitor crop growth, phenological stages, and overall plant health.
- Collect agronomic data, including yield, disease resistance, and marketable quality metrics.
- Analyze trial data to assess varietal performance and provide detailed reports.
- Liaise with internal teams, including agronomists, and sales teams, to share trial insights.
- Liaise with sales and commercial teams to organize and host field days and demonstration events for farmers, customers, and stakeholders.
- Provide technical support and training to stakeholders on varietal performance and best agronomic practices during field days.
Qualifications and Experience
- Interested candidates should possess HND / B. Sc degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Crop Science, Agricultural Science, or related field.
- Minimum of 2-3 years hands-onexperience in field trial operations, crop management, or agricultural research.
- Strong knowledge of vegetable crop production and varietal evaluation.
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent field management and operational planning skills.
- Passionate about greens and fieldwork.
- Proficiency in data collection and reporting.
- Good communication skills. Ability to speak Hausa will be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to work in outdoor field environments under varying weather conditions.
- Ability to coordinate and supervise labor workers.
