Job Summary
- The Legal Manager will be responsible for handling litigation, ensuring compliance with corporate and industry-specific regulations, and providing legal support to the organization.
- This role requires expertise in company law, contract management, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance, with a strong understanding of legal challenges in the automobile industry.
Key Responsibilities
Litigation & Dispute Resolution:
- Manage and oversee all litigation cases related to product liability, consumer disputes, commercial contracts, and labor issues.
- Represent the company in legal proceedings, arbitration, and regulatory matters.
- Liaise with external legal counsel and monitor case progress.
- Prepare legal notices, responses, and defense strategies for disputes.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies to minimize legal exposure.
Company Law & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with corporate laws, SEC regulations (if applicable), and governance requirements.
- Handle legal matters related to business expansion, joint ventures, and M&A activities.
- Maintain corporate records, licenses, and statutory filings.
- Advise on corporate restructuring, shareholding, and board-related legal matters.
Industry-Specific Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to automobile industry regulations, including vehicle safety, emissions, consumer protection, and environmental laws.
- Keep the company updated on legal developments affecting the automotive sector.
- Draft and implement policies for compliance with sectoral laws and global trade regulations (import/export compliance).
Contract & Commercial Law:
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with suppliers, dealers, distributors, and OEM partners.
- Ensure proper legal structuring of franchise, dealership, and service agreements.
- Handle contract disputes and work towards resolution through mediation or legal action.
- Support procurement and R&D teams with legal advisory on vendor agreements and technology licensing.
Consumer Protection & Product Liability:
- Address legal challenges related to product recalls, warranty claims, and consumer grievances.
- Ensure compliance with the Consumer Protection Act and product safety standards.
- Work closely with the Quality Control and Customer Service teams to mitigate legal risks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Law (LLB/LLM).
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in litigation and corporate legal affairs, preferably in the automobile industry.
- Strong understanding of automobile industry regulations, consumer protection laws, and contract negotiation.
- Experience in handling product liability claims and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple legal matters simultaneously.
- Experience in working with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry associations is an advantage.
