JOB SUMMARY

This role requires a deep understanding of reservoir engineering principles, geology, and production operations to maximize hydrocarbon recovery, ensure economic efficiency, and contribute to the company’s long-term production goals. The Development Lead is a senior technical position responsible for overseeing and optimizing the subsurface evaluation, development planning, and reservoir management strategies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reservoir Management & Optimization:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive reservoir management plans to enhance recovery and ensure the sustainability of assets.

  • Conduct reservoir performance evaluations, including material balance studies, decline curve analysis, and pressure transient analysis.

  • Propose and manage secondary and tertiary recovery techniques, such as water flooding and EOR methods.

Development Planning:

  • Lead the preparation of field development plans (FDP) in alignment with company objectives and regulatory requirements.

  • Design drilling and workover programs for new and existing wells to optimize production.

  • Integrate geological, geophysical, and engineering data into reservoir models to guide decision-making.

Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Coordinate with geoscientists, petrophysicists, drilling engineers, and production teams to develop a cohesive subsurface strategy.

  • Provide technical mentorship and training to junior reservoir engineers and other team members.

  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, joint venture partners, and other external stakeholders to secure necessary approvals and align strategies.

  • Oversee the creation, calibration, and maintenance of dynamic reservoir simulation models.

  • Interpret reservoir data from well logs, seismic surveys, and production tests to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Conduct risk assessments and economic evaluations for proposed projects.

Reporting & Compliance:

  • Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations for management, partners, and regulatory bodies.

  • Ensure compliance with local and international regulations, including environmental standards.

  • Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) for reservoir management and production targets.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIRED

  • Strong knowledge of reservoir characterization, well performance analysis, and enhanced oil recovery techniques.

  • Proven track record of successfully leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex projects.

  • Advanced knowledge of reservoir engineering principles, including fluid dynamics, petrophysics, and reservoir modeling.

  • Familiarity with Southern Nigeria’s subsurface characteristics and petroleum systems is an advantage.

  • Exceptional leadership, project management, and team coordination skills.

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences.

  • Strong analytical skills to interpret reservoir data and recommend actionable solutions.

  • Capability to balance technical requirements with commercial considerations.

  • Understanding of Nigerian oil and gas industry regulations and local content requirements.

  • Experience working with regulatory agencies such as DPR or NUPRC is a plus.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geology, or a related field Minimum of 10 years of experience in reservoir engineering, including leadership roles in reservoir development.

  • Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Eclipse, Petrel, OFM, or equivalent.
