- Dispensing medication: Fill prescriptions, including organizing repeat prescriptions
- Advising patients: Counsel patients on how to take their medication, including potential side effects
- Monitoring patients: Monitor drug therapy and disease control, such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol
- Preparing medications: Prepare intravenous solutions, tinctures, and dosages of drugs
- Maintaining records: Keep records such as patient profiles, inventories, and registries of controlled drugs
- Ensuring quality: Check the quality of the production and the identity, strength, or purity of medications
- Ensuring compliance: Ensure the medication supply chain is within the law and that the pharmacy premises and systems are fit for purpose
- Providing other health advice: Provide advice on issues such as how to stop smoking or manage conditions such as diabetes and asthma
- Consulting with other healthcare professionals: Consult with doctors, veterinarians, and other health care professionals about prescriptions
- Teaching customers: Teach customers how to take their medicine safely and effectively
