Job Description:


Our client, an international mining house, is seeking a Director: Future Capability to join their new venture in Guinea. As part of a newly formed organisation the primary objective of the role will be to deliver a programme of capability and capacity development activity that is sustainable with development and management contribution from those who stand to benefit. The focal point of activity will not be strictly governed or restricted to core mining functions but rather will be developed in consultation and engagement with and consideration to institutional and government priorities.  Outcomes of activity will not only deliver a direct and positive talent impact for the company but also a far broader range of education, development and skills improvement for Guinea.  The process of development should ensure that institutions and organisations are, in time, able to develop strategy and deliver outcomes in absence of direct company or donor intervention.


Responsibilities:



  • Development and implementation of the 5 Year Future Capability Strategy and plan for execution

  • Lead the Guinea capacity development team in developing and implementing capability programmes and activities, develop risk mitigation plans and design, implement, and evaluate capacity development plans

  • Lead the development and management of the company’s relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations and private sector to share learning, capacity development cases, and innovations.

  • Coordinate closely and regularly with the Head of Country, Regional Economic Development team and other key stakeholders to ensure that capacity development interventions are in line with company goals and budget.

  • Work with and through local and global implementing partners, providing technical leadership and guidance for their successful and compliant delivery of project activities.

  • Monitor and track the outcomes and results of the capacity and capability building interventions and use all relevant data/information to continually improve the project’s performance.

  • Conceive and provide technical direction to the capture and publication of key lessons, best practices and other stories for high quality publication of the project’s progress and learnings.

  • Troubleshoot through identifying potential issues, thinking critically to determine the best course of action and implementation adequate solutions.

  • Supervise a team of staff and network of consultants and partners to ensure excellence in their performance, client engagement, quality and timeliness of deliverables

  • Targeted Talent sourcing & development – next generation leaders

  • National level skills institutional capacity development

  • Development of formal partnerships and donor foundations to support sustained capacity development in education and capability with shared accountability and resource utilisation


Requirements: Qualification and Skill



  • Master’s or advanced degree in organizational development, education, capacity development, business management, international development or similar·

  • Extensive background designing and leading capability and capacity development activities in emerging regions·

  • Experience interacting with both local and international Organizations on capability and capacity development.

  • Strong knowledge of best practices and methodologies to strengthen capability and capacity.

  • Excellent oral/written communication skills in French and English.
