Responsibilities

• Consult with clients: Understand clients' needs and wants, and create custom looks 


• Apply makeup: Apply makeup to the face and body, including prosthetics 


• Consider lighting and setting: Take into account the lighting and setting when applying makeup 


• Choose materials and colors: Select the best materials and colors for the job 


• Stay current: Stay up to date on beauty trends and best practices 


• Communicate: Communicate with clients, other crew members, and costume designers 


• Adhere to regulations: Follow health and safety regulations 


• Maintain tools: Keep makeup tools and products in check 

Skills and qualifications 

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills


• Artistic personality


• Knowledge of different color palettes and design styles


• Understanding of technical makeup skills, such as shading, blending, and building


• Ability to work independently and with others

Education

• Makeup artists may have a diploma from a vocational school in cosmetology or makeup.
