Job Objective / Summary




  • The Head of Database Administration is responsible for managing the bank’s database infrastructure, ensuring data integrity, security, availability, and optimal performance.

  • This role oversees database design, maintenance, backup, and recovery processes while ensuring compliance with regulatory and security standards.



Duties & Responsibilities




  • Design, implement, and maintain the bank’s database systems to ensure high availability and security.

  • Optimize database performance, ensuring efficiency and scalability to support business operations.

  • Develop and enforce database security policies to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches.

  • Implement robust backup, disaster recovery, and failover strategies to safeguard critical data.

  • Collaborate with IT, MIS, and business teams to support data-driven decision-making.

  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations, industry standards, and internal policies.

  • Monitor database health, troubleshoot issues, and conduct performance tuning.

  • Lead a team of database administrators, providing training and mentorship.



Key Performance Indicators:




  • Uptime and availability of database systems.

  • Reduction in database downtime and performance issues.

  • Compliance with security and data protection regulations.

  • Successful execution of backup and recovery procedures.

  • Efficiency of database queries and response times.



Job Requirements

Education and Expeerience:




  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Database Management, or a related field.

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in database administration, preferably in a banking or financial institution.

  • Membership in relevant professional bodies such as the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) is an advantage.

  • Certifications in database management (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or AWS Database Specialty) are preferred.



Knowledge:




  • Expertise in relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.

  • Strong understanding of database security, encryption, and access controls.

  • Proficiency in backup and disaster recovery planning.

  • Experience with database performance tuning and query optimization.



Skills / Competencies: 




  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
