Duties & responsibilities
Reporting To: Head Pharmacist
- Provide clinical pharmaceutical care to patients.
- Prioritizes level of care based on critical needs.
- Ensuring medicinal products are stored appropriately and securely to ensure freshness and potency.
- Ensuring medication reaches the guest in the correct form and dose – this may include tablets, capsules, ointments, injections, inhalers, creams, etc.
- Responsible for the accurate dispensing and timely distribution of drugs and medicines for inpatients or outpatients.
- Counseling patients on the effects, dosage and route of administration of their drug treatments, particularly those who require complex drug therapy.
- Responding to medication-related queries from within the hospital, other healthcare service providers and the general public.
- Prevents, detects, and resolves medication-related problems and to make appropriate evidence-based, guest-centered medication therapy recommendations.
- Appropriately document clinical interventions.
- Supervising and checking the work of less experienced and less qualified staff;
- Keeping up to date with, and contributing to, research and development, often in collaboration with medical staff and colleagues in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Writing guidelines for drug use within the hospital, preparing bulletins and implementing hospital regulations.
- Providing information to individual wards on budgets and expenditure on drugs.
- Actively participates in code-12 and practice specific hospital alert response when necessary.
- Setting up clinical trials, evaluating new medications against claims made by pharmaceutical companies and recommending new medicines that are the safest and most effective for individual guest needs.
- Demonstrates quality and safety in the distribution process.
- Actively collaborates and demonstrates teamwork with Pharmacy teams to ensure drug distribution is communicated and delivered safely and effectively.
- Ensures that information for patients and staff is delivered in a manner that is supportive, timely and understandable.
- Ensures that the in and out of your unit is clean at all times to keep it free from infection.
- In case of emergency follow emergency protocols / SOPs.
- Any other task / assignment given by the Head Pharmacist.
Job requirements
- Successful canddiate must possess a minimum of Bachelor of Pharmacy/Doctor of Pharmacy
- Minimum of 2 years post-NYSC experience
- Good communication skills, Interpersonal relationship skills, Good decision making, friendly with a pleasant personality, Team player, etc.
