Job Summary
- Our client is seeking a highly skilled and analytical professional to lead our Special Risk unit.
- The Team Lead will be responsible for developing, underwriting, and managing non-traditional and complex risk portfolios such as Oil & Gas, Aviation, Marine Hull, Engineering, and other specialty lines.
- This role requires a deep understanding of risk management principles, regulatory compliance, and strong stakeholder engagement.
Principal Duties / Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Special Risk underwriting team to deliver on departmental goals and KPIs.
- Underwrite complex special risk policies ensuring adequate risk assessment, pricing, and terms in line with company policies and regulatory guidelines.
- Drive portfolio growth by developing customized insurance solutions for high-value and non-traditional risks.
- Conduct market and industry analysis to identify emerging risks and create appropriate insurance products.
- Ensure compliance with NAICOM regulations and all internal risk underwriting frameworks.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, reinsurers, corporate clients, and other stakeholders.
- Review and approve underwriting submissions from junior team members to ensure accuracy and profitability.
- Collaborate with the Claims, Reinsurance, and Business Development teams to ensure holistic service delivery.
- Prepare periodic reports on special risk performance and provide insights for strategic planning.
Qualifications / Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance, Finance, Actuarial Science, Engineering, or related fields.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in general/special risk underwriting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Professional certification (e.g. ACII, ANII, CIIN) is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of Oil & Gas, Aviation, Marine, and Engineering insurance products.
