Purpose of the Assignment
- The purpose of this is to engage highly experienced research personnel that will conduct quantitative data collection for the Post MNCHW Baseline Survey.
- This is part of the broader implementation research on the integration of vitamin A Supplementation (VAS) with Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) in Bauchi State.
- The State Consultants must adhere to the Survey protocol and methodology and administer the structure data collection tools as expected.
- The State Consultants will be responsible for conducting households’ interviews using structured electronic questionnaires (Survey CTO) based on the Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS) methodology.
- Their role is central to the successful collection of high-quality, reliable and timely data on coverage and quality of the 2nd round of MNCHW campaign, which took place in 2024.
- Selected State Consultants will be expected to demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills, deep understanding of household survey methodologies, fluency in Bauchi local languages and proficiency in using Survey CTO mobile data collection application
Scope of Assignment:
- The Post MNCHW Survey will be conducted across the 20 LGAs of Bauchi State supported by PF-SMC in collaboration with SMC+VAS.
- The data collectors will be engaged to support the implementation of quantitative household surveys across selected communities in Bauchi State.
- Working under the supervision of SMC-VAS Senior M&E Officer, the data collectors will be responsible for administering structured questionnaires to eligible caregivers and collecting accurate data on the coverage and quality of Vitamin A Supplementation (VAS), Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC), and key Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week (MNCHW) interventions. The process will involve identification, selection and training of Data Collectors in Bauchi State.
Specific Objectives
Specific tasks for Data Collector (104):
- Attend and actively participate in the training on data collection conducted by the Malaria Consortium M&E team.
- Conduct data collection in sampled households based on the LQAS methodology, including: obtaining written consents from respondents, administering interviews to the right participants and ensuring confidentiality of respondents' personal data during and after interviews.
- Report any issues to the State Consultant and assist in solving problems.
- Conduct interviews in selected households using the Survey-CTO data collection application and upload daily data onto the server.
- Meet daily targets of household visits based on the protocol and survey methodology.
- Collect high-quality data, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data collected.
- Meet daily targets and upload data onto the server in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of respondents' personal data during and after interviews.
Expected Output / Deliverables
Deliverables for Data Collector (104):
- Complete data set based on daily targets uploaded into the Survey CTO platform.
- Process reports submitted and approved by the Senior M&E Officer.
Requirements
Type of personnel required: Data Collector (104):
Essential:
- A minimum of National Diploma in Social Sciences, Health-related or National Certificate of Education (NCE).
- Experience in conducting public health research, particularly data collection.
- Knowledge of sampling techniques in conducting quantitative surveys.
- Experience in the use of modern technology in research, including the use of phones for data collection.
- Previous experience conducting LQAS surveys is an added advantage.
- Ability to speak local languages (Hausa/Fulani).
- Must be a resident of Bauchi State.
- Familiarity with the terrain, tradition, and culture of the locality.
- Ability to pay attention to details.
- Ability to write reports.
- Must not be a current government staff at any level.
- Must not be part of SMC implementation in any of the following capacities (national, state, LGA, HFW, CHW, FA, TA, or LM).
- Must not be blacklisted during previous LQAS activities.
- The Data Collector will be required to work independently and as part of a team and travel to selected households within Bauchi State.
- The Data Collector will be required to use their own phone for data collection, and must adhere to the study protocol, including all data collection and management procedures.
