Job Summary




  • The Senior Accounts Officer is responsible for managing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory regulations, and contributing to the efficient operation of the finance department. 

  • The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple accounting processes effectively.



Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Accounting:




  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with accounting standards.

  • Ensure timely posting of journal entries, ledger reconciliation, and monthly closings.

  • Generate financial reports including P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.

  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and clarification.



Accounts Payable & Receivable:




  • Oversee invoice processing, vendor payments, and account reconciliations.

  • Monitor aging reports and follow up on outstanding receivables.

  • Ensure prompt billing and collection of revenues from clients.



Budgeting & Forecasting:




  • Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting activities.

  • Monitor departmental budgets and highlight variances or risks to management.



Tax & Compliance:




  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (e.g., VAT, PAYE, WHT, corporate tax).

  • Prepare and file statutory returns in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Keep abreast of changes in tax regulations and accounting standards.



Internal Controls & Process Improvement:




  • Implement and maintain financial controls and accounting procedures.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and recommend efficiencies.

  • Maintain documentation for all accounting processes and systems.



Qualifications & Experience




  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a mid to large-sized company.

  • Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, CPA) is an added advantage.

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, or ERP systems).

  • Strong MS Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, etc.).
