Job Summary
- The Senior Accounts Officer is responsible for managing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory regulations, and contributing to the efficient operation of the finance department.
- The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple accounting processes effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting:
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with accounting standards.
- Ensure timely posting of journal entries, ledger reconciliation, and monthly closings.
- Generate financial reports including P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and clarification.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Oversee invoice processing, vendor payments, and account reconciliations.
- Monitor aging reports and follow up on outstanding receivables.
- Ensure prompt billing and collection of revenues from clients.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting activities.
- Monitor departmental budgets and highlight variances or risks to management.
Tax & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (e.g., VAT, PAYE, WHT, corporate tax).
- Prepare and file statutory returns in a timely and accurate manner.
- Keep abreast of changes in tax regulations and accounting standards.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement:
- Implement and maintain financial controls and accounting procedures.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and recommend efficiencies.
- Maintain documentation for all accounting processes and systems.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a mid to large-sized company.
- Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, CPA) is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, or ERP systems).
- Strong MS Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, etc.).
