Job Overview
- A Health and Safety Officer isresponsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment by developing, implementing, and maintaining safety policies, conducting risk assessments, and providing training to employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment).
- Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
- Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to SHE manager.
- Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle workers health and safetycomplains.
- Issuing of PPE and keeping of records.
- Conduct inspection of safety equipment’s such as fire extinguishers monthly inspection, first aid box on weekly basis and monthly ladder inspections
- Experience in writing report and knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
- Excellent communication skill with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics
- Organizing safety training session and induction for employee and new intakes.
- Enforce safety policies and ensure compliance from staff and contractor
- Assist in Conduct internal audit and inspection
- Supervising temporary work areas of contractors, safe handling of storage materials
- Assist in Conducting drills to prepare employees for fire or other emergencies
- Conduct toolbox talk on weekly basis with both staff and contractors
- Issue permit to work document and ensure safety measure are implement before starting job.
- Report to safety manager on daily safety issues identified during inspection.
- Assist in developing and implement risk assessment.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess a B.Sc or HND in any science-related course.
- They should have 2 to 4 years of relevant experience.
- Applicants must not be more than 40 years old.
Abilities / Requirements:
- Excellent working knowledge of computers and MS Office like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.,
- Good analytical skills.
- Deep knowledge of safety regulations
- Attention to detail
- Strong emergency response planning
- First aid knowledge
- Risk management proficiency
- A must-have certification in HSE 1, 2 and 3
- Certificate in NEBOSH IGC or related qualifications is an added advantage
