Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Scaffolding Planning for Turnaround Maintenance
- Develop detailed scaffold plans for all turnaround (TAR) maintenance activities, considering the specific needs of equipment, structures, and personnel access during maintenance shutdowns.oIdentify the types of scaffolding required (e.g., access scaffolds, work platforms, suspended scaffolds) based on the work scope and engineering requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and project teams to determine scaffold requirements, ensuring alignment with the turnaround work schedule.
- Plan the safe erection, modification, and dismantling of scaffolding based on maintenance activities, ensuring that access is provided to various work areas, including confined spaces, heights, and hazardous areas.
- Scaffolding Verification and Inspection:
- Conduct thorough inspections and verification of scaffolding installations to ensure that they meet design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Inspect scaffolding materials for defects or degradation before use, ensuring they are fit for purpose and in compliance with industry standards (e.g., BS 5973, OSHA regulations).
- Perform regular checks throughout the turnaround maintenance period to ensure scaffolding remains safe and stable during ongoing operations.
- Verify that all scaffolding is erected and dismantled according to the approved plans and that it is structurally sound.
Risk Assessment and Safety Management:
- Perform detailed risk assessments for scaffolding activities during the turnaround, identifying potential hazards such as equipment instability, falling objects, and worker access.oEnsure scaffolding work follows safety procedures, including proper fall protection, load-bearing capacity, and safe access for maintenance workers.
Skills and Qualifications:
Educational Qualifications:
- HND/Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.Certification in scaffolding (e.g., Scaffold Supervisor Certification, NEBOSH, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
Experience:
- At least 5–8 years of experience in scaffolding planning and verification, particularly in industrial settings such as oil & gas, LNG, petrochemicals, or power plants.
- Experience in scaffolding activities during turnaround maintenance, shutdowns, or large-scale maintenance projects.Proven experience in working with scaffold design software or tools is a plus.
- Technical Skills:Strong knowledge of scaffolding standards (e.g., BS 5973, OSHA, local regulations) and best practices for scaffold design and erection.
- Experience in preparing and verifying scaffold design documents, risk assessments, and safety plans.Familiarity with scaffold-related equipment (e.g., tubes, clamps, braces) and scaffolding material standards.
- Competency in using scaffolding and project management software.
