ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the MRH’s mission and growth objectives.
- Advise the Executive Director and Board of Directors on financial planning, sustainability, and risk management.
- Lead financial forecasting, scenario planning, and long-term budgeting.
- Oversee accounting, budgeting, auditing, and financial reporting in compliance with local and international regulations (e.g., IFRS, donor requirements).
- Ensure adherence to grant restrictions and donor reporting requirements.
- Manage cash flow, investments, and reserves to optimise financial health.
- Work with programme teams to develop budgets for grant proposals and ensure proper fund allocation.
- Monitor restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring compliance with donor agreements.
- Liaise with donors and auditors for financial reviews and reporting.
- Establish and enforce robust internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud.
- Assess financial risks (e.g., currency fluctuations, funding gaps) and develop mitigation strategies.
- Ensure insurance, legal, and tax compliance across operating countries.
- Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability and transparency.
- Collaborate with programme teams to align financial planning with project needs.
- Represent the NGO in financial discussions with partners, donors, and government agencies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. A Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a relevant certification (e.g., ICAN, ACCA) is preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a senior financial leadership role, ideally within the nonprofit , NGO or health sector.
- Proven track record of managing complex budgets, financial reporting, and compliance, especially within the context of international programmes.
- Experience with grant management and knowledge of donor compliance standards is required.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, financial regulations, and compliance standards.
- Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data for strategic decision-making.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities with a focus on capacity building and professional development.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including senior leadership, programme staff, donors, and external auditors.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
