Job Description
Position Overview:
- The AV System Designer is responsible for the post-sales engineering, design, and documentation of advanced audiovisual (AV) and automation systems tailored to residential and workplace environments. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, aesthetic sensibility, and up-to-date industry knowledge. The ideal candidate is not only an expert in AV and automation systems but also passionate about knowledge sharing, delivering impactful training sessions and support to System Integrators and industry partners.
- This position involves collaborating with clients and partners to assess needs and develop customized AV solutions, while ensuring quality control and experience assurance from design to implementation.
Core Responsibilities:
Create detailed engineering documentation, including:
- First-fix rough-in layouts
- Schematic drawings
- Rack elevations
- Acoustic construction drawings
- Lighting control schematics
- Device placement and integration details
- Ensure all designs meet both functional and aesthetic requirements for residential and workspace environments.
- Translate project scopes and client needs into actionable designs, in collaboration with clients and project managers.
- Utilize tools such as AutoCAD or Revit to generate precise schematics and 3D renderings.
Training & Enablement
- Design and deliver Pre-sales and Post-sales AV Experience Design Training sessions for System Integrators and industry partners.
- Develop high-quality training presentations and resources that communicate integration best practices and emerging technologies.
- Provide continuous support and guidance to System Integrators to ensure high standards of execution on every project.
Project Oversight & Collaboration
- Oversee on-site implementation of designs, ensuring alignment with specifications and industry standards.
- Work closely with the engineering team to facilitate the accurate execution of technical drawings.
- Engage with industry partners to analyze client needs and recommend bespoke AV and automation solutions.
- Support sales efforts by creating and delivering dynamic, technically-informed AV experience presentations.
Innovation & Standards
- Create advanced AV system concepts including acoustic treatments, 3D visuals, and immersive design renders.
- Develop architectural lighting designs, scope of work documentation, equipment BoMs, quotations, and lighting control schedules.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in AV technology, maintaining certifications in the AVIXA design track or equivalent.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Design Quality: Accuracy, completeness, and aesthetic alignment of engineering design documentation.
- Training Impact: Effectiveness of training sessions, measured by participant feedback and performance outcomes.
- Implementation Success: High fidelity between design documentation and executed installations.
- Client Satisfaction: Positive client feedback on system performance, usability, and design quality.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, AV Technology, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong background in AV system design, especially within residential and workspace environments.
- Experience working with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.
- Solid understanding of lighting, acoustics, and system integration best practices.
- Demonstrated experience designing and delivering training programs.
- Active AVIXA certification (CTS-D or equivalent) preferred.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
