Reports To: Site Supervisor or Project Manager
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Carpenter with experience or interest in sustainable structures to assist in the construction, repair, and maintenance of greenhouses. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in carpentry and be able to read blueprints, work with a variety of materials, and build to exact specifications with a focus on durability, weather resistance, and environmental efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Construct greenhouse frames using wood, metal, or composite materials.
- Install structural components including walls, roofs, benches, doors, and vents.
- Measure, cut, and shape lumber and other materials using hand and power tools.
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, or verbal instructions from supervisors or architects.
- Ensure structures are level, square, and weather-tight.
- Apply protective finishes or treatments to wood and other materials for outdoor durability.
- Collaborate with electricians, plumbers, and other trades when required for integrated systems (e.g., irrigation or climate control).
- Follow green building practices and prioritize sustainable material use where possible.
- Maintain a clean and safe worksite and adhere to all safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a carpenter; experience with greenhouse or agricultural construction is a plus.
- Proficiency with carpentry tools and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Physical strength and endurance to handle heavy materials and long hours.
- Knowledge of eco-friendly materials and sustainable building practices preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or apprenticeship certification a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- May involve climbing, lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Use of safety gear such as helmets, gloves, and eye protection.
