- Successful employee(s) will be responsible for installation, monitoring, testing and maintenance of fibre optics cable links and follow operational procedures, both in technical facilities.
- Performs complex technical duties and escalates issues as needed.
- Follows standard procedures and guidelines. Uses individual expertise to solve difficult technical and system problems. NB: This job requires working weekends and various shifts, including holidays.
You shall perform any of the following based on needs:
- Testing and diagnostic procedures on equipment according to published equipment standards
- Fibre optics cable installation/deployment projects.
- Supervise external fibre optics contractors to ensure they maintain maximum standards on the field and deliver projects according to specification.
- Locates fibre optics cable, monitors construction activities, fibre splicing and termination;
- Installation of routers, bridges, multiplexers, concentrators, etc.
- Periodic maintenance on the company transmission support equipment.
- Maintenance of new and existing fibre-optic link circuits through troubleshooting and fault isolation techniques
- Utilisation of local and remote test systems to isolate and resolve site circuit outages.
- Maintaining a database of new and existing fibre optics links and circuits.
- Coordination of testing and turn-up of service with all involved providers until the site/link is up and working.

- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Requirements
- The job holder must have a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of Second Class Upper from a reputable institution or HND (Upper Credit). The candidate must possess a minimum of 2 years’ working experience with a reputable company. Telecom Companies added an advantage.
You will need to have:
- Experience with PC word processing and communications software.
- Extensive experience in splicing fibre optic cables using different fusion splicer machines
- Extensive experience in the use of the OTDR machine to locate faults on optical fibre cable
- Extensive experience in new fibre optics cable deployment projects.
- Extensive experience in understanding and analysing OTDR trace readings.
- Hands-on experience in using various software to draw as-built diagrams of a completed fibre optics cable deployment project.
- Extensive knowledge of fibre optics deployment and civil work standards.
- Working knowledge of plotting fibre optics routes on Google Earth to produce KMZ/KML
- Security background investigation for site access may be required.
- Must be able to perform physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, including, but not limited to, perceiving differences in wire cable colors, moving and/or lifting items such as ladders,
- Willingness to work odd shifts, day, night and weekends.
Even better if you have experience with the following:
- A competent level of (site-specific) equipment knowledge, including, but not limited to, transmission equipment manufactured by Cisco, Siemens and Huawei.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings and providing as-built drawings to engineering.
- Working knowledge of Customer Premise/site Equipment installation and troubleshooting
- Fiber Splice and Cable Preparation procedure
- Aerial cable placement
- Underground cable placement procedure.
