Job Summary




  • The School Nurse is responsible for providing basic first aid and health support to students and staff during school hours.

  • This includes attending to minor injuries and illnesses, maintaining first aid supplies, and ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for all.



Responsibilities

First Aid and Emergency Care:




  • Provide immediate care for minor injuries such as cuts, bruises, and sprains.

  • Respond to common health complaints like headaches, stomachaches, or fainting.

  • Assess whether a student should be sent home or referred to a hospital.



Health Monitoring and Reporting:




  • Observe students for signs of illness or infection.

  • Notify parents/guardians when a student is unwell.

  • Keep simple records of incidents and first aid provided.



Medication Assistance:




  • Safely store and assist with administering prescribed medications (with parental authorization).

  • Monitor students with known health conditions (e.g., allergies, asthma).



Health and Hygiene Support:




  • Promote good hygiene habits among students.

  • Support classroom teachers in teaching basic personal hygiene (e.g., handwashing, cleanliness).



Clinic Management:




  • Ensure the school clinic or first aid station is clean, organized, and stocked with basic supplies (bandages, antiseptics, gloves, etc.).

  • Check and report low stock of medical supplies.



Emergency Preparedness:




  • Be familiar with school emergency protocols.

  • Assist in evacuations or emergencies requiring basic medical attention.



Requirements




  • Minimum: Certificate in Nursing, Community Health, or First Aid Training from a recognized body.

  • Certification in Basic First Aid and CPR (preferred).

  • Previous experience in a school or child-focused setting is an advantage.

  • Ability to stay calm in emergencies.

  • Caring and patient with children.

  • Good communication and record-keeping skills.

  • Basic knowledge of common childhood illnesses and injuries.
