Job Summary
- The warehouse assistant will be responsible for ensuring inventory is processed, organized, and stored. He / She will also package, scan, and prepare orders for delivery.
- The warehouse assistant may also operate heavy machinery, or drive equipment.
Job Responsibilities
Receiving & Inspection:
- Accepting and unloading deliveries of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods.
- Inspecting shipments for damage, quality, and quantity against purchase orders.
- Ensuring all food items meet quality and safety standards before storage.
Storage & Inventory Management:
- Properly storing raw materials and finished goods in designated warehouse locations.
- Organizing and labeling stock according to FIFO (First-In-First-Out) or FEFO (First-Expired-First-Out) principles.
- Keeping accurate inventory records and conducting regular stock checks.
Order Picking & Packing:
- Retrieving and preparing raw materials for production as per requests.
- Picking, packing, and staging finished goods for dispatch according to customer or internal orders.
- Ensuring packaging meets company and regulatory standards for food safety.
Loading & Dispatching:
- Coordinating with drivers and logistics teams for timely dispatch.
- Loading trucks safely and securely, ensuring proper handling of perishable items.
- Verifying shipment documents and ensuring compliance with food transportation regulations.
Warehouse Cleanliness & Food Safety:
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and pest-free warehouse environment.
- Following food safety protocols such as HACCP, GMP, and hygiene standards.
- Reporting any food safety or quality issues to supervisors.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Keeping accurate records of received and dispatched goods.
- Ensuring proper labeling and traceability of products.
- Complying with food safety regulations, company policies, and health & safety guidelines.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Inventory Management & Accuracy: Measures how well actual stock matches recorded stock. A higher percentage indicates better accuracy in stock keeping.
- Stock Discrepancy Rate: Tracks errors in stock count. A lower percentage means fewer inventory mismatches.
- Order Processing & Dispatch: Evaluates how accurately warehouse assistants pick items for orders. Higher accuracy reduces customer complaints and rework.
- Receiving & Inspection: Measures the accuracy of received shipments compared to purchase orders (right quantity, right items, undamaged condition).
- Inspection Compliance Rate Target: Ensures all incoming goods go through quality checks as per company and regulatory standards to maintain food safety.
- Warehouse Efficiency & Productivity: Tracks the time taken to receive, store, and retrieve a pallet. Lower time indicates better efficiency.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensures the warehouse follows food safety standards such as HACCP and GMP. A high score means strong compliance.
- Housekeeping & Cleanliness: Measures hygiene and cleanliness based on internal/external inspections. A high score ensures food safety compliance.
Requirements
- HND/BSc. in Business Administration or any relevant field.
- License or certification as dictated by the state to operate heavy machinery as needed
- Physically able to stand, sit, move, squat, walk, and climb during the course of the shift
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with inventory software, and able to upload data into the company system
