JOB OVERVIEW:



The Livestock Officer will play a crucial role in implementing REBHI livestock support interventions, focusing on sustainable livestock management, animal health, and livelihood support. Working within the RESILAC*2 project objectives and guidelines, the Livestock Officer will oversee livestock-related activities, provide technical support to beneficiaries, and ensure quality control in all aspects of livestock programming. This role requires significant interaction with community members and training efforts with collaboration with veterinary services.



Responsibilities:




  • Program Implementation: Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of livestock-related activities (including restocking, animal health services, training, and market linkages) under the RESILAC 2 project.

  • Beneficiary Training: Conduct regular training sessions on animal husbandry, livestock disease prevention, nutrition, and hydroponic fodder production to improve livestock feed availability. 

  • Ensure that training materials are culturally relevant and adapted to the community’s needs.

  • Present new techniques for growing fodder without soil, providing a 

  • Hydroponic Training: Introduce beneficiaries to hydroponic sustainable feed source.

  •  Oversee hands-on training sessions, equipping beneficiary with the knowledge and resources to implement for livestock.

  • Technical Support: Provide ongoing technical guidance on livestock health, disease management, and care practices to improve livestock productivity and self-sufficiency.

  • Community Engagement: Engage actively with community leaders and beneficiaries, promoting sustainable livestock practices and reinforcing best practices for animal welfare.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor livestock conditions, health outcomes, and practices among beneficiaries. 

  • Ensure accurate data collection, reporting, and documentation of all livestock interventions.

  • Collaboration with Veterinary Services: Coordinate with local veterinary agencies and experts for necessary animal health support, including vaccinations and treatment.

  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure that all activities are in line with REBHI policies and comply with relevant national standards and donor requirements. Submit regular reports on livestock activities.



Training and Quality Assurance:




  • Conduct on-site training for field staff and community members involved in livestock and hydroponic management.

  • Collaborate closely with the Veterinary officer to ensure an integrated approach to overall project improvement.



External Representation:



Represent REBHI in livestock-related clusters, working groups, and community meetings to ensure coordination and alignment with Donor requirement.



Collaborate with local stakeholders, including community representatives, government agencies and partner organizations.

Requirements:




  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or HND in Animal Science, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Agriculture, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in livestock management, animal husbandry, or a related area in humanitarian settings.

  • Skills: Strong technical knowledge of livestock health, disease management, animal nutrition, and hydroponic systems; excellent communication and training skills; ability to work with diverse communities.
