Job Description

Job Summary

  • The Design Engineer is responsible for designing and optimizing solar PV systems for commercial and industrial (C&I) clients.

  • This role involves conducting site assessments, performing energy yield analysis, creating detailed electrical and structural designs, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

  • The engineer collaborates with project managers, contractors, and clients to deliver cost-effective, high-performance solar solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed site assessments and translate findings into accurate solar PV system designs.

  • Develop engineering drawings and layouts using tools such as AutoCAD, PVSyst, and Helioscope.

  • Size and select system components such as solar panels, inverters, batteries, and mounting structures.

  • Conduct performance simulations and prepare yield analysis reports.

  • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, local codes, and safety regulations.

  • Support procurement and operations teams with design specifications and technical input.

  • Assist in preparing technical proposals and BOQs for customer presentations.

  • Prepare as-built drawings and documentation post-installation.

  • Continuously improve design processes to reduce costs and increase system efficiency.

  • Stay updated with advancements in solar technologies and design practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical /Electronic Engineering, or related field.

  • 3 - 4years proven experience in C&I solar PV system design.

  • Proficiency in PV design software (e.g., PVsyst, Helioscope, Homer Pro, AutoCAD/ SketchUp Layout).

  • Knowledge of NEC, IEC, and local regulatory standards.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.

Key Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of solar PV system components (modules, inverters, racking, BOS).

  • Proficiency in electrical design (AC/DC coupled systems, single-line diagrams, voltage drop calculations).

  • Experience in system optimisation for cost, performance, and space efficiency (shading mitigation, tilt/azimuth adjustments, evaluation and design of rooftop and ground-mount solar installation).

  • Intermediate skills in PV design tools (PVsyst, Helioscope, Homer Pro, AutoCAD/ SketchUp Layout).

  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams (project, sales, contractors, utilities).

  • Effective communication to translate technical details for non-technical stakeholders.
