About The Role




  • We are looking for a Legal Counsel who will support Moniepoint on legal matters and propose commercially savvy legal solutions towards the attainment of its strategic objectives. As a member of the Legal team in the Contracts and Documentation unit, you will be responsible for ensuring that Moniepoint’s contracts, loan and security documentation, products/services, and business operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices from a legal standpoint. You will also be required to support Moniepoint in litigation management, data privacy, and intellectual property protection.



As a Legal Counsel, You Would




  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including commercial agreements, loan and security documentation, and technology agreements.

  • Ensure proper documentation and execution of contracts and agreements to protect Moniepoint’s interests.

  • Liaise with regulatory authorities.

  • Advice on statutory compliances.

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with legal obligations under agreements.

  • Research and prepare legal opinions on various civil matters, including claims for compensation against the company.

  • Draft, amend, review, and/or recommend modifications of related laws and regulations governing Moniepoint.

  • Assist in the formulation, implementation, and/or amendment of internal policies.

  • Provide sound and timely legal advice & opinions to the company and make recommendations to the Management of Moniepoint as necessary.

  • Attend meetings and offer advice as required while taking notes.

  • Support the General Counsel with any other duties as assigned.



To succeed in this role, we think you should have:




  • Bachelor of Laws from an accredited institution.

  • Qualifying Certificate from the Nigerian Law School.

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of proven experience as a legal counsel (with experience in the banking sector).

  • Experience in drafting/negotiating contracts, loan and security documentation, and commercial and technology agreements.

  • Ability to interpret regulations.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills.

  • Ability to cope with high levels of responsibility and with confidential matters.

  • Good understanding of the Fintech space and applicable laws/regulations.

  • Strong research skills.
