Job Description







  • The Police Duty Solicitor will provide pro bono, timely, and rights-based legal assistance to survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) at designated police stations. The role involves legal representation, advocacy, and close coordination with justice sector actors to ensure survivors access needed legal and psychosocial support services



Key Responsibilities:




  • Provide free legal advice and support to survivors of SGBV at police stations.

  • Represent clients during police questions, bail hearings, and other relevant legal procedures.

  • Facilitate referrals to courts, Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs), and other justice-related services.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all legal services and client interactions.

  • Collaborate with law enforcement officers, SARCs, and community response teams to improve survivor outcomes.

  • Participate in trainings related to SGBV, trauma-informed care, legal ethics, and community justice.

  • Prepare and submit timely reports and updates to the project team as required



Qualifications:




  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Barrister-at-Law (BL); must be called to the Nigerian Bar.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ post-call experience, preferably in criminal law, human rights law, or legal aid work.

  • Demonstrated experience working with survivors of SGBV or other vulnerable groups is a strong advantage.

  • Strong understanding of Nigerian legal and criminal justice systems, especially as they relate to gender justice.

  • Knowledge of English and Hausa

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
