Job Description




  • To oversee and manage all aspects of beef production operations at the Ogbomosho Abattoir, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality beef products that meet hygiene, safety, regulatory, and customer standards.

  • This includes managing the slaughter process, production planning, team supervision, and continuous improvement of production efficiency and yield.



Responsibilities

Operational Management:




  • Manage day-to-day beef slaughtering and processing activities in compliance with SOPs, animal welfare, safety, and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure timely processing of livestock from lairage to chilled/final product dispatch.

  • Monitor production output and quality control throughout the stages of beef processing.

  •  Plan and coordinate production schedules based on supply forecasts and demand.



Team Supervision and Development:




  • Lead, supervise, and coach production staff, including butchers, slaughter operators, hygiene officers, and packers.

  • Ensure proper staffing levels and shift management to meet production targets.

  • Train employees on standard production practices, hygiene, and safety standards.

  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.



Quality Assurance and Compliance:




  • Ensure compliance with food safety, HACCP, NAFDAC, SON, and other regulatory standards.

  • Liaise with the QA/QC team to investigate and resolve product non-conformities or complaints.

  • Maintain strict adherence to sanitation, meat inspection, and environmental protocols.



Production Planning & Inventory Management:




  • Coordinate with livestock supply teams to ensure steady and cost-effective raw material inflow.

  • Monitor yield, waste, and recovery to optimize output and profitability.

  • Manage inventory of consumables, packaging materials, and tools used in production.



Process Optimization and Reporting:




  • Continuously assess production processes for efficiency, yield, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly production reports including KPIs (e.g., carcass yield %, downtime, labour efficiency, waste reduction).

  • Recommend and implement production process improvements.



Stakeholder and Cross-Functional Collaboration:




  • Work closely with logistics, cold chain, QA, livestock procurement, sales, and maintenance teams.

  • Participate in customer audits and assist in implementing corrective actions where necessary.



Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):




  • Production volume vs target

  • Carcass yield and recovery rate

  • Compliance with safety and hygiene standards

  • Labour efficiency and overtime control

  • Inventory accuracy and material usage

  • Downtime frequency and resolution speed

  • Staff turnover and training completion



Requirements




  • B.Sc or HND in Animal Science, Food Technology, Meat Science, Production Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 7 – 10 years of experience in a beef or meat processing environment, with at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.

  • Deep understanding of slaughter techniques, beef cuts, meat grading, and yield optimization.

  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, HACCP, and hygiene protocols.

  • Proficiency in production planning and inventory control systems.

  • Familiarity with modern abattoir equipment and meat processing technology.
