Job Responsibilities




  • Coordinate the activities of the workshop on a day-to-day basis.

  • Organize and supervise the servicing, maintenance and repair of the company’s fleet and ensure that the vehicles are always in good working conditions.

  • Ensure prompt planning and implementation of preventive maintenance activities on schedule for all trucks.

  • Supervise the maintenance and repair of all the trucks and other technical support equipment to ensure that overhauls, preventative maintenance and repair are done in a cost-effective manner, with attention given to quality and longer duration of vehicles.

  • Ensure that the vehicles are maintained in a safe and reliable working condition in accordance with planned preventive maintenance program and to identify and rectify repetitive problems.

  • Ensure that planning, scheduling, and unscheduled repairs are carried out efficiently and cost effectively, with quality service.

  • Oversees the administrative requirements of the workshop, including warranty obligations, inspection records, manual updates, equipment defect reports, maintenance services, policies, procedures, and practices.

  • Regularly report progress on each job analyse maintenance costs and provide recommendations on fleet utilization and replacement.

  • Track parts usage and maintain an accurate inventory of parts issued.

  • Assist in the development of maintenance budget by providing input relative to policy, costs and established metrics.

  • Ensure the maintenance records for fleet are accurate and up to date.

  • Investigate and diagnose the causes of vehicle breakdown and accidents and apportion blames accordingly by ensuring that defaulters take financial responsibility of the cost of repairs.

  • Ensure that the workshop is always functional and that vehicles awaiting repairs are attended to with dispatch.

  • Supervise, schedules or assigns work to mechanics and other maintenance personnel.

  • Tests vehicles to troubleshoot problems and/or tests repairs to ensure proper and safe completion.

  • Raise requests for spare parts needed for maintenance activities and ensure that such parts requested are used for the purpose for which they are requested for.

  • Recover to base all broken down vehicles or accidental trucks with dispatch.

  • Ensure thorough pre and post trip inspection, pre and post maintenance inspection and all relevant inspections

  • Ensure that the trucks are thoroughly checked, and bolt and nuts retightened on the arrival of the trucks.

  • Coordinate the activities of mechanics including discipline.

  • Ensure that all the tools and equipment in the workshop are accounted for always, functional and are being prudently used.

  • Ensure adequate training of mechanics and all other workshop personnel on preventative maintenance and on methods for diagnosing and repairing vehicles and parts.

  • Organize training in conjunction with the HR/Fleet unit for all the drivers especially on how to handle minor break downs.

  • Prevent pilfering of the company’s tools and materials through thorough monitoring.

  • Provide the procurement unit periodically with the list of parts that are frequently used for replacement to avoid stock outs.

  • Assign vehicles for maintenance to a designated Mechanic(s) and take proper records in case the vehicles fail.

  • Enforce compliance with the approved maintenance timelines through strict supervision to ensure vehicles do not exceed the required time at the workshop.

  • Ensure the mobile maintenance team is always available when called upon; coordinate and assign rescues.

  • Assist in procurement where necessary and advise on quality vehicle parts to be purchased.

  • Advice the fleet team on the duration of each maintenance activity

  • Prepare daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly maintenance reports.

  • Any other duties related to or arising from the performance of what is listed above.



Requirements & Qualifications




  • Bachelor’s Degree / HND in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field (OND with relevant experience may be considered).

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in vehicle workshop management, fleet maintenance, or related roles.

  • Strong technical knowledge of vehicles, engines, and diagnostic systems.

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise and motivate a team.

  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and workshop management software (an added advantage).

  • Strong commitment to safety standards and quality service delivery.
