- Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Work alongside doctors, paramedics, lab technicians, and other healthcare professionals to formulate and implement appropriate treatment plans for emergency patients.
- Patient Management: Provide initial care to patients, including dressing wounds, controlling bleeding, administering IV fluids, and assisting in procedures like intubation, catheterization, or setting fractures.
- Patient Education and Support: Offer support to patients and their families, providing information on the diagnosis, treatment options, and care after discharge from the emergency unit.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, documenting assessments, treatments, interventions, and patient responses.
- Infection Control: Ensure proper hygiene, sanitation, and infection control practices to prevent cross-contamination, especially in the fast-paced and high-risk environment of the emergency room.
- Emotional and Psychological Support: Provide emotional support to patients and their families, especially in traumatic or stressful situations.
- Handling Multi-Casualty Situations: In the case of mass casualty incidents, A&E nurses play a role in managing a large influx of patients, prioritizing care according to the urgency of their condition.
