What You’ll Be Doing
As a Mobile Equipment Electrician, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the optimum availability and reliability of our container handling equipment. Your responsibilities will include:
- Maintenance & Repairs: Carry out repairs, diagnostics, and modifications on Reach Stackers, Empty Handlers, Terminal Trucks, Mobile Harbour Cranes, Gantry Cranes, Spreaders, and other port equipment in line with safety and compliance standards.
- Troubleshooting: Evaluate and analyse breakdowns, determine root causes, and execute timely and cost-effective solutions to minimise downtime.
- Safety & Compliance: Apply strong knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act; enforce safe working procedures and ensure a safe environment for colleagues and operations.
- Rigging & Recovery: Use rigging procedures to safely recover equipment after accidents, ensuring minimal delays to operations.
- Preventive Maintenance: Execute hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activities as scheduled, ensuring adherence to manufacturer specifications.
- Record Keeping: Complete work orders, confirmation slips, and job documentation with accurate details on work performed, parts used, and time spent.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the MEQ Supervisor, provide progress updates, and support colleagues during emergencies or major repairs.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute ideas to improve maintenance practices, service levels, and cost optimisation.
Requirements
What We’re Looking For
- ND, HND, BSc, or BTech in an engineering discipline.
- 3–5 years’ experience as an electrician/technician in ports, mining, steel, or manufacturing industries.
- Hands-on experience with Reach Stackers, Empty Handlers, Terminal Trucks, and other heavy-duty port handling equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, PLCs, hydraulics, and container handling equipment.
- Self-motivated, analytical, and systematic, with a strong ability to follow instructions and plan work efficiently (5S discipline).
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency repairs with quality workmanship.
- Strong commitment to safety, organisation and continuous learning.
