Job Summary




  • Under the supervision of the Senior Advisor, Nutrition /SBCC, the Nutrition officer will be responsible for the overall implementation, oversight, and reporting of high-quality Nutrition programs/ SBCC activities, and the integration of nutrition interventions into Health and community structures in Sokoto, for the CALHIV and HEI under the THRIVE project.

  • The officer will contribute to ensuring that OVC, especially CALHIV and HEI, have timely, equitable access to a comprehensive, integrated package of nutrition services through working closely with the State/Regional THRIVE project staff and other relevant key stakeholders.



Specific Job Responsibilities




  • Technical Leadership: work in collaboration with the Senior Advisor Nutrition/SBCC to provide technical leadership and guidance on nutrition-related interventions for CALHIV and HEI, including the development of nutrition care plans and protocols 

  • Nutrition Assessment and Surveillance: With guidance from the Senior Advisor for Nutrition, conduct nutrition assessments and surveillance to identify nutrition gaps and vulnerabilities among OVC enrolled under the THRIVE project.

  • Implement Nutrition Programs: Implement and monitor nutrition programs, including Management of Malnutrition, WASH, Food demonstration, Nutrition and counselling support (NACs), and Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN), and support the daily

  • implementation of both nutrition-sensitive and specific interventions that contribute to the early detection, referral, and management of acute malnutrition in the state.

  • Capacity Building: With support from the Nutrition unit, S/He will build the capacity of CSO staff, Health workers, and caregivers to provide nutrition support and services to OVC (CALHIV, and HEI) and their caregivers. And also support the training of healthcare workers, community leaders, and other frontline staff on effective SBCC techniques and nutrition counselling skills to deliver consistent messages.

  • Monitor and Evaluate Nutrition Programs: Participate in monitoring and evaluating of nutrition programs, including data collection, analysis, and reporting. And track the impact of SBCC interventions through data collection and analysis, making adjustments to strategies as needed to optimize outcomes.

  • Partnership and Collaboration with Stakeholders: Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and community-based organizations to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive response to the nutrition needs of OVC. Work closely with stakeholders, including government officials, healthcare providers, and community leaders, to promote nutrition relatedactivities and ensure integration with existing health services.

  • Develop and Implement Nutrition Education Materials: Adapt and disseminate nutrition education materials, including counselling cards, posters, to promote optimal MIYCN practices and healthy eating habits. Also craft culturally appropriate and impactful nutrition messages that are tailored to different audiences and address specific behaviours like breastfeeding, complementary feeding, WASH and healthy food choices. 



Required Qualifications




  • BSs, HND, in Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field.

  • Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in nutrition program management, implementation, and technical support.

  • Strong technical skills on Nutrition, knowledge of HIV/AIDS and OVC programming, including the unique nutrition needs of children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS

  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing evidence-based nutrition interventions.

  • Strong technical knowledge of nutrition and public health principles and practices.

  • Analytical and critical thinking abilities focusing on program quality and impact.

  • Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with national and international nutrition-related policies and guidelines, including the WHO guidelines for the management of severe acute malnutrition.
