Job Description
Job Purpose
- The Head of Supply Chain is responsible for leading, developing, and optimizing the organization's end-to-end supply chain operations, encompassing procurement, logistics, warehousing, inventory management, and supplier relations.
- This role ensures the continuous availability of spare parts, materials, and equipment required to support mining operations efficiently and cost-effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive supply chain strategy aligned with organizational goals and operational requirements.
- Lead the planning and forecasting of equipment and spare parts needs in collaboration with the maintenance and operations teams.
- Establish policies and procedures for procurement, inventory, and logistics management to ensure efficiency, transparency, and compliance.
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks (e.g., supplier delays, shortages, transportation challenges).
Procurement & vendor Management:
- Oversee the sourcing, negotiation, and purchase of heavy-duty equipment, spare parts, and consumables.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local and international suppliers to ensure consistent supply and favorable pricing.
- Evaluate supplier performance using key metrics such as lead time, quality, and reliability.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policy, ethical standards, and applicable regulations.
Inventory & Warehousing:
- Supervise inventory planning, control, and optimization to minimize downtime due to parts unavailability.
- Ensure proper documentation, labeling, and storage of all materials in line with safety and quality standards.
- Implement systems for tracking inventory levels and automating reorder processes.
- Oversee periodic stock audits and reconciliation.
Logistics & Distribution:
- Manage inbound and outbound logistics for the delivery of equipment and parts.
- Negotiate and manage contracts with transport and freight forwarding companies.
- Ensure timely clearance of imported materials and compliance with customs requirements.
- Optimize logistics routes and methods to reduce cost and improve delivery timelines.
Team Leadership & Performance Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the supply chain team to achieve departmental objectives.
- Establish performance metrics and KPIs for procurement, inventory, and logistics operations.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the team.
Financial & Reporting:
- Prepare and manage the annual supply chain budget.
- Analyze and report on cost-saving initiatives, supplier performance, and procurement spend.
- Support management in decision-making with data-driven supply chain insights.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CIPS, APICS, ISM) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 10–12 years of experience in supply chain management, at least 5 years in a leadership role within the mining, heavy equipment, or industrial sector.
- Proven track record in managing international sourcing and logistics of spare parts and equipment.
- Familiarity with local and international procurement regulations and vendor management practices.
Key Competencies:
- Strong understanding of mining operations and heavy-duty equipment supply dynamics.
- Excellent negotiation, contract management, and vendor relationship skills.
- Deep knowledge of import/export procedures and international procurement.
- Proficiency in supply chain management systems (e.g., SAP MM, Oracle, or similar ERP tools).
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and cost optimization skills.
