- The Material Requirement Planning Officer is responsible for ensuring the timely availability of materials, spare parts, and consumables required to support mining operations and equipment maintenance.
- The role involves analyzing demand forecasts, monitoring stock levels, and coordinating procurement and replenishment activities to prevent downtime and optimize inventory investment.
Responsibilities
Material Planning & Forecasting:
- Review and analyze production and maintenance schedules to determine material requirements.
- Generate accurate material demand forecasts based on consumption trends, lead times, and equipment usage patterns.
- Collaborate with the maintenance, operations, and procurement teams to plan material needs.
- Continuously adjust material plans to reflect operational changes or unexpected demand.
Inventory Control & Monitoring:
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure critical spare parts and materials are always available without overstocking.
- Track and report slow-moving, obsolete, and excess inventory for management action.
- Recommend optimal reorder levels and safety stock for critical components.
- Support periodic stock audits and ensure data accuracy within the inventory management system.
Procurement Coordination:
- Generate and review purchase requisitions based on material planning data.
- Liaise with procurement officers to ensure timely purchase and delivery of materials.
- Track order status and follow up with suppliers to meet required delivery dates.
- Provide the procurement team with technical specifications and accurate demand forecasts.
Data Management & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate material master data, including part numbers, descriptions, and lead times.
- Utilize ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP MM, Oracle, or similar) for planning and reporting.
- Prepare periodic reports on material consumption, forecast accuracy, and planning efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement in material planning.
Coordination & Continuous Improvement:
- Work closely with warehouse, maintenance, and operations teams to resolve material availability issues.
- Support implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to enhance planning accuracy and efficiency.
- Participate in the development of material planning policies and standard operating procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3 – 5 years of experience in material planning or inventory management, preferably in the mining, industrial, or heavy equipment sector.
- Experience using ERP systems for material planning and reporting.
- Professional certification (e.g., APICS, CIPS, or similar) is an advantage.
Key Competencies:
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- In-depth understanding of MRP principles and supply chain planning.
- Knowledge of mining operations and heavy-duty equipment spare parts.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar).
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
