We are looking for an experienced Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to join our Cloud Operations team on a contract basis.
This role is critical to bringing our database support in-house for one of our major enterprise product lines.
You will be the primary subject matter expert for a mission-critical, high-availability Oracle database environment hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The ideal candidate is an independent, self-starting professional with a strong foundation in core Oracle DBA fundamentals.
While your main focus will be Oracle, our broader landscape is predominantly SQL Server, so experience in that area is a significant plus and offers greater opportunity for long-term contribution.
Key Responsibilities
Deploying, configuring, and maintaining Oracle databases on AWS (EC2 and/or RDS).
Using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) for proactive monitoring, alerting, and performance diagnostics.
Managing all aspects of database support, including triaging issues, performance tuning, and optimizing SQL/PLSQL.
Implementing and managing robust backup and recovery strategies using RMAN.
Supporting disaster recovery and high-availability solutions like Oracle Data Guard.
Managing database security, user access, and auditing policies to ensure compliance.
Collaborating with DevOps and application teams to improve cloud architecture and processes.
Participating in an on-call rotation to support 24/7 production environments.
Must Have
5+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA in a production environment, with a focus on enterprise, high-availability editions.
Strong hands-on experience managing Oracle databases in the AWS Cloud, with a solid understanding of EC2, RDS, VPCs, security groups, and S3.
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, as it makes up the vast majority of our database environment.
Proficiency in scripting for automation using Bash, SQL*Plus, or PL/SQL.
Deep expertise in database fundamentals: performance tuning, backup/recovery (RMAN), and diagnostics.
Proven ability to work independently as a self-starter.
Proficiency with monitoring and diagnostic tools, especially Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM).
Nice to Have
Experience managing PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server on AWS (RDS or EC2).
Experience with database migrations (e.g., Oracle to PostgreSQL) using AWS DMS or Ora2Pg.
Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
