Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled, compassionate, and experienced Consultant Anesthetist and Intensivist to join our multidisciplinary clinical team. The successful candidate will deliver safe, evidence-based anesthesia and intensive care services, ensuring optimal patient outcomes before, during, and after surgical and medical procedures. The role requires a proactive professional with strong leadership skills, clinical excellence, and a deep commitment to patient-centered care within a dynamic hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
Anesthesia & Perioperative Care
- Administer general, regional, and local anesthesia for surgical and diagnostic procedures.
- Monitor and manage patients’ vital signs and responses before, during, and after anesthesia.
- Provide expert postoperative recovery and pain control management.
- Assess patients’ medical histories to develop individualized anesthesia care plans.
- Ensure adherence to anesthesia safety protocols and best clinical practices.
Critical Care & Intensive Management
- Lead the management of critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
- Perform advanced life support, resuscitation, and stabilization for patients requiring ventilatory or hemodynamic support.
- Participate in multidisciplinary ICU ward rounds, clinical audits, and case discussions.
- Implement evidence-based critical care protocols and infection control standards.
Pain Management & Consultation
- Offer specialized consultation in the management of acute and chronic pain conditions.
- Conduct pre-anesthetic evaluations, risk assessments, and perioperative counseling.
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, physicians, and nursing staff to ensure integrated, patient-focused care.
Leadership, Training & Quality Assurance
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors, residents, and anesthesia technicians.
- Participate actively in morbidity/mortality reviews, audits, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to medical education, clinical research, and professional development programs.
Qualifications & Experience
- MBBS or MD degree from a recognized and accredited medical institution.
- Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) or the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCA/FMCP) in Anesthesia or equivalent.
- Valid practicing license from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
- Minimum of 7–10 years post-specialist qualification experience in a reputable healthcare facility.
- Proven expertise in general anesthesia, intensive care management, and pain therapy.
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership, professionalism, and ethical conduct under pressure.
