Job Description
Position Summary
- The Senior Accountant will manage the full accounting cycle and ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of all financial transactions.
- The ideal candidate is a proactive professional with strong technical accounting skills, Account Payables and Receivables, Reconciliations, Fixed Asset Management, deep knowledge of Nigerian tax laws, and a solid grasp of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Key Responsibilities
Payment Processing & Financial Transactions:
- Process daily payments accurately and on schedule.
- Verify and ensure proper documentation and authorization prior to payment.
- Administer monthly payroll and ensure accurate and timely salary disbursement
Accounting, Financial Posting & Fixed Asset Management:
- Record and post financial transactions using Sage 50 Accounting Software.
- Reconcile monthly postings and ensure accuracy of all entries.
- Manage depreciation of fixed assets and amortization of intangible assets in compliance with accounting standards.
Account Receivables & Financial Tracking:
- Prepare and issue accurate quotes to clients in a timely manner.
- Process duty payments efficiently and track financial transactions.
- Conduct Sage postings and ensure proper financial documentation.
- Support the accounts officer in raising payments and reconciling transactions.
Reconciliation & Compliance:
- Perform account reconciliations for all key balance sheet accounts (bank, AP, AR, Repayments)
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations to verify the accuracy of transactions.
- Reconcile all key ledger accounts and promptly resolve discrepancies.
Statutory & Tax Compliance:
- Prepare and remit statutory deductions including PAYE, VAT, WHT, and Pension in line with regulatory timelines.
- Ensure accurate processing and timely payment of customs duties for imports and exports.
- Maintain strict adherence to financial regulations and company policies.
Financial Reporting & Audit Support:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
- Prepare the company’s financial books and records for audit in compliance with FIRS requirements.
- Post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments to ensure completeness and proper cutoff.
- Support year-end audit processes and address audit queries promptly.
- Collaborate with the Head of Finance in financial planning, budgeting, and performance reporting.
Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement opportunities for improving financial processes and controls.
- Ensure continuous compliance and readiness for both internal and external audits.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (minimum of Second Class Upper Division).
- Professional certification (ICAN, ACA) required.
- Experience handling tax audits with FIRS
- 4–5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Proficiency in Sage 50 or similar accounting software.
- Demonstrated experience in financial statement preparation and month-end closing.
Key Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of accounts payable, receivable, reconciliations, accruals, and fixed asset management.
- Expertise in aging analysis and receivables follow-up.
- Knowledge of Goods-in-Transit (GIT) accounting is an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Sound understanding of IFRS and Nigerian tax regulations.
