- The Instrumentation & Control/SCADA Site Engineer will be responsible for overseeing, managing, and ensuring the proper implementation of instrumentation and control systems, including SCADA, as part of an oil and gas pipeline project.
- The role involves coordination with stakeholders, compliance with industry standards, troubleshooting, and ensuring quality and safety in execution as per project requirements.
Job Responsibilties
Project Management & Coordination:
- Oversee the installation, commissioning, and testing of instrumentation and SCADA systems on-site.
- Coordinate with the project management team, contractors, and vendors to ensure project deliverables align with timelines and quality standards.
- Act as a liaison between the engineering design team and site execution team to resolve technical queries.
Instrumentation and Control:
- Ensure proper implementation of instrumentation layouts, cabling, calibration, and signal testing. Verify and approve control system designs, specifications, and installation procedures.
- Monitor the integration of sensors, transmitters, controllers, and other instrumentation components with the SCADA system.
SCADA Systems:
- Supervise the installation and configuration of SCADA systems, including RTUs, PLCs, and HMI interfaces. Perform testing and validation of SCADA communication protocols such as MODBUS, OPC, or IEC standards. Ensure seamless integration of SCADA systems with field instrumentation and control devices.
Quality Assurance:
- Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with international codes, standards (like IEC, ISA, or API), and project specifications.
- Review and approve test reports, functional checks, and as-built documentation for instrumentation and SCADA systems. Implement quality control measures during installation and commissioning phases.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):
- Ensure adherence to HSE guidelines during the execution of instrumentation and SCADA activities. Identify potential hazards related to control systems and recommend mitigation measures.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of site activities, issues, and resolutions related to instrumentation and SCADA systems.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports for the project management team.
- Ensure proper documentation of as-built drawings, test records, and operation manuals for handover.
Education Certifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
- Minimum 5-8 years of experience in instrumentation, control systems, and SCADA for oil and gas pipeline projects or similar industries.
- Proven expertise in on-site management and commissioning of SCADA systems in industrial settings.
- Hands-on experience with PLCs, DCS, and SCADA systems from major vendors (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Honeywell, Rockwell).
- Proficiency in communication protocols such as MODBUS, OPC, IEC 61850, or TCP/IP.
- Strong understanding of instrumentation devices, control valves, and safety systems.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
