The Human Resource Specialist will provide practical and timely support to staff across the full employee life cycle. This includes recruitment, onboarding, HR administration, performance management, benefits administration, HR documentation, and support to assigned projects.
The role ensures consistent application of HR policies and procedures in compliance with Nigeria labor laws, Jhpiego Global HR standards, and donor requirements
Responsibilities
Provide HR support, guidance, and clarification to staff and supervisors on HR policies, procedures and employment-related matters in line with Jhpiego standards
Coordinate full life cycle recruitment for assigned positions, including job advertisements, shortlisting, interview support, reference checks, documentation, and contracting
Lead the onboarding processes for new staff, including coordination with departments, documentation, and follow-up to ensure smooth integration
Manage mentoring program activities for new staff as assigned
Maintain complete and up-to-date HR documentation, electronic records, and personnel files in compliance with internal procedures and audit expectations
Serve as focal point for JEMS and JLearn, supporting staff records, leave and timesheet administration, and HR system updates
Compile monthly payroll variations and related documentation and liaise with Finance for accurate processing
Support the administration of employee benefits including the medical scheme and respond to staff inquiries as applicable
Support the performance management process including goal setting, probation reviews, mid-year and annual appraisals, and ensure timely completion by staff and supervisors
Maintain HR databases, trackers, and periodic reports including recruitment and attrition updates
Provide HR support to assigned projects and ensure alignment with donor-specific HR requirements
Support learning and development coordination, including tracking mandatory trainings and assisting with staff development initiatives
Support staff welfare, wellness, and HR communication initiatives
Coordinate exit and separation processes including documentation, clearance, and exit interviews
Participate in HR process improvements and compliance checks in line with Jhpiego and donor requirements
Assume other responsibilities as assigned
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Social Sciences, Business Administration or related field
5–6 years’ progressive HR experience, preferably in an international NGO or donor-funded environment
Good understanding of Nigeria labor laws and HR best practices
Experience working with HRIS platforms is an added advantage
Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
Ability to work effectively in a team and manage multiple priorities
