Responsibilities




  • Make regular site inspections. Collate all HSE observations and maintain the register for a daily unsafe acts and unsafe conditions inspection and reports.

  • Deliver HSE induction for new employees and visitors. Also, make HSE presentations to individuals or groups of employees/managers.

  • Plan safe working practices and make necessary changes.

  • Organise workplace inspection and track closeout of observed gaps.

  • Maintain the PTW register as well as other HSE logs. Conducting PTW audits.

  • Keep up to date with current health and safety legislation. Local and international, as applicable.

  • Participate in incidents/accidents investigation report. Making recommendations following accidents/incidents to prevent recurrence.

  • Participate in and undertake risk assessments and job hazard analysis exercises. Ensure the control measures are implemented as stated.

  • Identify potential hazards and determine ways of reducing risks.

  • Engage with relevant regulatory authorities and contractors on HSE matters.

  • Supervise contracted and in-house jobs for safety compliance.

  • Organise, attend and take minutes of meetings during health and safety meetings.

  • Coordinate toolbox talks and other safety meetings and training programs.

  • Lead the enforcement of HSE procedures, policies and standards to the workforce across the plant and all work sites.

  • Compile HSE statistics and reports on a weekly and monthly basis.

  • Keep up to date with developments within the health and safety profession.

  • Act as the focal person for the management of PPE provided for Kano and keep track of issued PPE.

  • Raise requisitions for HSE materials and services as well as make reservations for material issuance from the store through SAP.

  • Perform and assume other duties and responsibilities as may be required by the immediate supervisor.



Qualifications




  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.

  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in Health and Safety.

  • HSE Qualification, such as HSE Level 1-3 or NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.

  • An advantage if the candidate is a member of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON).

  • Knowledge of local legislation (e.g., Factories Act/NMDPRA environmental and safety regulations).

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Applications.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Good organisation and document management skills.
