Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily and weekly sales reconciliations from all restaurants in the region, ensuring POS-to-bank accuracy and immediate investigation of shortages, overages, and timing gaps.
- Review store-level cash handling practices and escalate irregularities or control breakdowns to Operations Leadership.
- Validate proper recording of promotions, discounts, loyalty redemptions, voids, and employee meals to ensure compliance with QSR policy.
Period Close & Financial Reporting:
- Prepare regional period close packages including sales summaries, prime cost variance explanations, labor productivity insights, and controllable cost diagnostics.
- Reconcile inventories for food, packaging, and cleaning supplies; verify alignment with theoretical usage and highlight waste or theft indicators.
- Support corporate accounting with accruals, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, prepaid schedules, and fixed asset updates for new openings and remodels.
Cost & Margin Optimization:
- Partner with Area Coaches and Restaurant Managers to understand prime cost drivers—food cost fluctuations, yield issues, labor allocation—and provide targeted recommendations.
- Analyze restaurant P&Ls to identify underperforming units and create action plans for cost tightening, throughput improvement, and staffing efficiency.
- Monitor vendor invoice accuracy, contract pricing compliance, and credit/return processing (e.g., product shortages, damaged goods).
Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Conduct periodic restaurant audits covering cash, deposits, petty cash, inventory control, timekeeping accuracy, coupon handling, and operational SOPs.
- Provide guidance during health department audits, royalty reporting, franchise compliance reviews, and internal audit cycles.
- Ensure adherence to corporate purchasing rules, approved supplier lists, and equipment capitalization policies.
Regional Support & Business Partnering:
- Serve as the financial liaison for the Regional Operations Director, translating P&L results into actionable operational insights.
- Train managers and assistant managers on reading P&Ls, understanding food/labor metrics, and using financial dashboards.
- Support new restaurant openings, remodels, and transfers by setting up accounting structures, verifying initial inventories, and ensuring proper financial onboarding.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3–5+ years of accounting experience; at least 2 years in a QSR, restaurant, hospitality, or multi-unit retail environment.
- Strong knowledge of restaurant cost structures, POS systems, and inventory management tools (e.g., Restaurant365, HotSchedules, Toast, NCR, or similar).
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and ability to analyze large datasets quickly.
- Prior involvement in restaurant audits, food cost analysis, or labor modeling.
- Knowledge of franchise finance models, royalty reporting, or brand-mandated accounting systems.
- Operational mindset: Understands how decisions in the kitchen, drive-thru, and front of house impact financial results.
- Problem-solving under pressure: Able to resolve discrepancies quickly in a fast-moving, high-volume environment.
- Excellent communication: Can explain financial concepts to non-financial managers without jargon.
- Ownership and accountability: Treats each restaurant as a mini-business with unique challenges.
