Responsibilities
Manning and Crewing Management:
- Ensure vessels are manned with qualified, certified, and medically fit seafarers at all times.
- Manage crew rotations, crew changes, and relief planning.
- Verify authenticity of seafarers’ certificates and ensure compliance with STCW, MLC, and flag state requirements.
- Maintain accurate crew lists, documentation, and databases.
- Liaise with flag state, manning agents, and regulators on crewing compliance.
- Coordinate repatriation, insurance claims, medicals, and crew welfare matters.
Strategic and Administrative HR Management:
- Develop and implement HR policies, strategies, and frameworks that align with corporate goals.
- Plan manpower needs and ensure optimal staffing across departments and vessels.
- Coordinate employee onboarding, confirmation, promotion, and exit processes.
- Oversee HR documentation, personnel files, and HR information systems (HRIS).
- Advise management on HR planning, policy formulation, and organizational structure.
Recruitment, Selection, and Onboarding:
- Coordinate recruitment for both shore and ship-based positions.
- Develop job descriptions, manage adverts, shortlist candidates, and oversee interviews.
- Conduct reference checks, background verification, and pre-employment medicals.
- Organize orientation and onboarding for new employees and crew.
Training, Performance, and Development:
- Identify training needs and prepare annual training plans for crew and staff.
- Liaise with training institutions to ensure competence and certification compliance.
- Coordinate crew and staff appraisals and career progression reviews.
- Monitor performance KPIs and support supervisors in implementing performance improvement plans (PIPs).
Employee Relations and Welfare:
- Manage employee engagement programs and welfare initiatives.
- Handle grievances, disciplinary issues, and conflict resolution in accordance with company policy.
- Maintain good relations with unions, crew representatives, and regulatory authorities.
- Promote a positive organizational culture and teamwork across units.
Compensation, Benefits, and Payroll Coordination:
- Administer compensation structures and benefits in alignment with company policy.
- Coordinate with Finance on monthly payroll and statutory deductions.
- Maintain and update crew and staff leave schedules, allowances, and insurance benefits.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
- HR or crewing certification (e.g., CIPM, SHRM, IHRM, or maritime crewing certification) is an advantage.
- 6 - 8 years of experience in HR and Crewing functions, preferably in marine, oil & gas, or logistics industry.
- Sound knowledge of MLC, STCW, ISM Code, and Nigerian labor laws.
- Experience managing vessel-based workforce.
