Job Summary

• The Greenhouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all daily operations within the greenhouse facility to ensure optimal plant growth, high-quality yields, and efficient use of resources.


• This role involves supervising staff, monitoring environmental controls, managing irrigation and pest control systems, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or related field.


• 3–5 years of experience in greenhouse or nursery management.


• Strong knowledge of horticultural practices, irrigation systems, pest control, and plant nutrition.


• Experience with greenhouse automation systems is an advantage.


• Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.


• Ability to work in humid and warm environments and perform physically demanding tasks when necessary.


• Proficiency in record-keeping and basic computer applications (MS Excel, farm management software).


• Attention to detail and commitment to quality.


• Problem-solving and decision-making skills.


• Team leadership and motivation.


• Time management and multitasking ability.


• Knowledge of sustainable and climate-smart greenhouse practices (desirable).

Core Competencies:

• Oversee day-to-day greenhouse activities, including planting, propagation, pruning, transplanting, and harvesting.


• Monitor and adjust greenhouse environmental parameters (temperature, humidity, light, and ventilation) for optimal plant growth.


• Implement and maintain irrigation, fertigation, and nutrient management schedules.


• Ensure equipment, tools, and systems are properly maintained and functioning efficiently.


• Supervise greenhouse workers and assign daily tasks to ensure productivity and adherence to standards.


• Provide on-the-job training on horticultural practices, safety protocols, and proper equipment use.


• Monitor employee performance and ensure adherence to company policies and work schedules.


• Identify and monitor pest and disease presence and coordinate timely control measures (chemical or biological).


• Maintain records of pest management activities and comply with environmental and safety regulations.


• Ensure consistent quality of plants and produce through proper cultivation practices.


• Maintain accurate records of planting schedules, crop performance, and greenhouse conditions.


• Track inputs and outputs to support production planning and reporting.


• Enforce compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies within the greenhouse.


• Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and fertilizers.


• Conduct regular inspections to identify and mitigate safety hazards.


• Monitor inventory levels of seeds, fertilizers, growing media, and other inputs.


• Prepare requisitions and maintain adequate stock for uninterrupted operations.


• Optimize resource utilization to minimize waste and cost.
