Job description

• Gemini is a highly reputable telecommunications solution provider with a strong presence in Lagos and Abuja. We specialise in VAS and SMS aggregation, VAS content development, and telecoms consulting services. We are committed to providing top-notch solutions to our clients. For Gemini and our partners, we are seeking to recruit a Telecoms VAS Platform Engineer to help us manage Linux servers that are critical to our operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and optimising our SMS messaging infrastructure, integrating third-party APIs, and ensuring seamless communication between systems.

Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with SMPP protocol and SMS gateways.


• Knowledge of telecommunications protocols, messaging flows, and SMSC integration.


• Good knowledge of VPN technologies (IKE/IPsec, SSL, WireGuard) and security applications in Linux systems.


• Experience with Linux environments and basic scripting (Bash, Shell, or perl/Python).


• Experience in API development and integration (RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, SOAP).


• Strong troubleshooting skills with experience using Wireshark, Postman, or similar tools.


• Familiarity with database technology such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.


• Strong project and time management skills


• Ability to work independently or with a group.


• Fast learner, adept at managing multiple high-priority projects with excellent problem-solving skills


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills


• Experience with MS office suite

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain SMPP-based SMS gateways for high-volume messaging.


• Develop and integrate APIs (REST/SOAP) for SMS delivery, reporting, and analytics.


• Monitor and troubleshoot SMPP connections, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.


• Work with telecom providers and customers to establish and manage SMPP binds.


• Analyse logs and debug messaging failures, latency, and delivery issues.


• Optimise SMS routing and pricing by working with multiple vendors and operators.


• Develop scripts and automation tools to streamline messaging workflows.


• Rapidly become acquainted with our current Aggregator Platform by collaborating with our Tech partners.


• Configuring different VPN tunnels, troubleshooting VPN/networking problems in active deployments


• Working knowledge of TCP/IP stack and basic networking protocols, understanding on firewall policies, routing protocols, virtual interfaces, and user authentication protocols.


• Familiar with programming in both user and kernel space traffic flow path. Prior experience on performance tuning for VPN traffic throughout is a plus.


• Knowledge of gateways, firewalls, and routers


• Knowledge of TCP/IP addressing, routing, and troubleshooting


• Installation and configuration of mail services, firewalls, and networks


• Seeing through a project from conception to finished product.
