Job Summary
- We seek to find an Environmental Officer who will ensure compliance with environmental regulations and support the organization’s sustainability goals.
- The role involves conducting routine environmental monitoring, contributing to EIAs and EMPs, and overseeing waste and pollution management activities.
- The officer will prepare reports, maintain environmental documentation, identify risks, and support corrective actions.
- They will also provide environmental training and engage with regulators, communities, and stakeholders to promote responsible environmental performance.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental laws, permits, standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., NESREA, FMEnv, state environmental agencies).
- Support permit applications, renewals, and documentation.
- Conduct routine inspections and audits to verify compliance.
Environmental Monitoring & Assessment:
- Conduct and document environmental monitoring—air, water, noise, soil, emissions, effluents, and biodiversity.
- Support the preparation, review, and implementation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Environmental Management Plans (EMP), and Environmental Audit reports.
Waste & Pollution Management:
- Implement waste management strategies (waste segregation, recycling, disposal).
- Monitor effluent discharge processes and ensure compliance with standards.
- Lead pollution prevention initiatives and spill response preparedness.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Prepare periodic environmental reports (daily/weekly/monthly).
- Maintain environmental records and databases.
- Provide data for ESG reporting (GRI, SASB, local disclosures).
Environmental Risk Management:
- Identify environmental risks and maintain an environmental risk register.
- Support implementation of mitigation controls and corrective actions.
- Participate in incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
Training & Awareness:
- Conduct environmental awareness training for employees and contractors.
- Promote sustainability culture and environmental stewardship.
Stakeholder & Community Engagement:
- Liaise with regulators, host communities, and environmental consultants.
- Participate in community engagement on environmental issues or grievances.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, or related field.
- 2–5 years’ relevant work experience (industry-specific experience is an advantage).
- Knowledge of national and international environmental regulations and standards.
- Experience with EIA, EMP, waste management, and environmental monitoring tools.
