Job Description
The Import Officer is responsible for coordinating end-to-end logistics and import operations, including managing local and international consignments, processing insurance and import documentation (E-Forms, LCs, SONCAP, PAAR), and ensuring timely shipment clearance and delivery. The role involves negotiating transport rates, tracking shipments across sea, air, and courier channels, and maintaining accurate import records.
Job Details
- Coordinate logistics of local and import consignments to World Trade Center, Abuja and other units as well as initiating goods-in- transit cover for materials movement.
- Compute insurance premium and initiate E-Form, LCs, and other documentations of all import consignments for various units and activate Product/Soncap certificate for PAAR processing and reviewing assessment notice for import duty payment.
- Organize, negotiate rates and services for different kind of trucks (20ft, 40ft and other trucks), tracking, updating shipment status of sea, air, courier and arranging delivery to various units.
- Source, update transporters and clearing agents database and ensure that Terminal Delivery Order’s (TDO’s) are released for timely delivery to various units and that the containers are returned back to the shipping company as soon as possible to avoid additional demurrage charges.
- Follow up with clearing agents to ensure that refundable (shipping/container deposits) amounts are paid to the company’s account at the earliest.
- Update import records, that is Form “Ms”, PAAR status, Demurrage report and Exchange Control Documents.
- Follow up with clearing agents to ensure all sea/air consignments are cleared and delivered within a stipulated period.
- Forecast weekly budget requirement, prepare costing of air, sea and courier consignments (Landed Cost) to generate Goods Received Note.
- Obtain the best quote from suppliers, clearing agents and transporters.
- Any other responsibilities as may be delegated by Management.
Requirements
Experience:
- Minimum of two years Post-NYSC experience on Procurement Jobs.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience required for managerial responsibilities with any technical background, preferably Electrical / mechanical engineering.
Education:
- ND/HND preferably Electrical/Mechanical Eng.
Skills & Competence:
- Very good communication skills.
- Good knowledge of market trends.
- Very good negotiating skills.
- Very good knowledge of product specification and market sources.
