Main responsibilities




  • Promote the social, academic, moral, physical and emotional development of each child within the safe, caring and stimulating environment of the centre.

  • Keep the Director/Proprietor up to date with ongoing developments through regular verbal and written communication.

  • Initiate, manage, monitor, and evaluate change across the Early Years team (Crèche, Playgroup, Pre-Nursery, Nursery 1 and 2) to continuously improve practice.

  • Ensure parents are actively involved in record-keeping, monitoring, and reviewing their child’s progress by promoting strong partnerships with families.

  • Oversee the full Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provision for children aged 3 months to 5 years, ensuring continuity and progression into Primary School.

  • Ensure equality of provision across the EYFS, including consistent access to resources and high-quality teaching.

  • Manage the organisation, maintenance, and provision of materials, resources, equipment, and furnishings, including responsibility for ordering within the allocated budget.

  • Act as a full member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), representing the interests of the Crèche, Playgroup, Pre Nursery and Nursery 1 & 2 children, staff and parents.

  • Promote and maintain a safe, stimulating, and nurturing Early Years environment, supporting the team in delivering high-quality care and upholding professional standards

  • Provide professional guidance and practical support within classrooms when required, drawing on personal expertise and experience.

  • Be responsible for updating all of the Early Years Foundation Stage Policies and Handbooks and Risk Assessments.

  • Support the marketing and admissions process by maintaining positive community links, promoting the setting locally, and effectively communicating with prospective families.

  • Work collaboratively with the Director/Proprietor in the recruitment, deployment, and professional development of staff to maximise individual skills and expertise.

  • Oversee the observation and assessment of all children, working in a supervisory capacity with EYFS staff to ensure high-quality reporting and accurate tracking of progress.

  • Remain informed of current Early Years research and best practice through ongoing professional development, training, and engagement with other EYFS settings.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative team culture, providing training opportunities and identifying and supporting continuous professional development across the Early Years team.

The ideal candidate will have:




  • A minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a senior or leadership role within an Early Years or EYFS setting (e.g. Head of Early Years, EYFS Lead, Nursery Manager, or equivalent).

  • Demonstrable experience in developing, implementing, and reviewing an EYFS curriculum to ensure high-quality learning outcomes and progression.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Child Development, or a closely related field.

  • Proven ability to lead, support, and develop Early Years practitioners, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
