Job Summary
- The Upholstery Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing all upholstery operations within the furniture manufacturing unit. The role ensures high-quality upholstery output, efficient workflow, adherence to production schedules, optimal use of materials, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
- The supervisor leads and coordinates upholsterers to deliver finished products that meet company specifications and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations:
- Supervise daily upholstery activities to ensure timely completion of production targets.
- Allocate tasks to upholsterers based on skill level and production requirements.
- Monitor workflow to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
- Ensure all upholstered furniture meets approved designs, measurements, and quality standards.
Quality Control:
- Inspect upholstery work for finishing, stitching, padding, alignment, and fabric consistency.
- Identify defects and ensure rework is completed promptly.
- Maintain consistency in upholstery standards across all product lines.
Team Supervision & Training:
- Supervise, motivate, and manage upholsterers and upholstery assistants.
- Train new staff on upholstery techniques, tools, and company standards.
- Enforce discipline, punctuality, and adherence to workplace policies.
- Provide performance feedback and support skill development.
Materials & Inventory Control:
- Ensure proper use of fabrics, foams, leather, adhesives, and other upholstery materials.
- Reduce material wastage and report shortages or damages.
- Collaborate with the storekeeper or procurement team on material availability.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce safety procedures and proper use of tools and machinery.
- Ensure a clean, organized, and hazard-free upholstery section.
- Report accidents, unsafe practices, or equipment malfunctions promptly.
Collaboration & Reporting:
- Work closely with carpentry, finishing, and quality control teams.
- Provide daily and weekly production reports to management.
- Communicate production challenges and suggest process improvements.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Candidates should possess an HND / Technical Certificate; Trade Test or vocational training in upholstery is an advantage.
- 5 years hands-on upholstery experience in a furniture manufacturing environment.
- At least 2–3 years in a supervisory or team lead role.
- Strong knowledge of upholstery techniques, fabrics, foams, and finishing.
- Ability to read production drawings and specifications.
- Good leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
