Ensure the organization meets legal standards, protects people and the environment, fosters a strong safety culture, and integrates social performance into operational planning by developing policies, managing risk, and overseeing environmental practices.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and manage HSE policies, strategies, and management systems (e.g., ISO 45001/14001) aligned with business goals and legal requirements
Ensure that all risk assessments and management systems are periodically reviewed and updated to reflect evolving global best practices in ESG reporting and disclosures.
Identify hazards, conduct risk assessments, and implement controls to prevent accidents, injuries, and environmental damage
Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations, manage permits, and report performance to leadership
Design and deliver safety training programs, promote a positive safety culture, and advise employees on best practices
Lead accident/incident investigations, analyze data, and implement corrective/preventative actions
Develop, implement, and drill emergency response plans to ensure preparedness for fires, natural disasters, and other emergencies
Develop programs focused on community impact mitigation related to noise, dust, and traffic from mining and logistics operations, working collaboratively with local stakeholders.
Conduct regular workplace inspections, audits, and performance monitoring to track HSE metrics
Qualifications
Bachelor’s in HSE, Law, Engineering, or related field; NEBOSH/ISO certification
5+ years HSE experience in mining or heavy industry
Skills:
Strong knowledge of Nigerian mining and environmental regulations, as well as HSE legislation and standards
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data and find effective solutions
Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence decisions and drive change.
